St Mark Passion

2019 · 85′

Soloists, SATB choir, SATB semi-chorus and orchestra

Difficulty: A

Commissioned by the St Endellion Easter Festival, St Mark Passion draws on the particular concision and urgency of Mark’s Gospel. Lucia Quinault’s libretto extends the Passion narrative with parables and miracles from elsewhere in the Gospel and gives greater prominence to some of its less-heard voices, placing the human drama at the centre of the work. First performed at St Endellion in 2019, it received a new semi-staged production at Ushaw, Durham, in 2026.

Majora Canamus

2017 · 5′

SATB choir, unaccompanied

Difficulty: M/A

Written for the Southern Cathedrals Festival during its Jane Austen celebrations, Majora Canamus takes the opening Sinfonia of Handel’s Messiah as its musical point of departure. Its text comes from the scriptural frontispiece Charles Jennens placed at the head of his Messiah libretto. The first performance was broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
